About us John

Taryn

I was born and raised in northwest Montana. The arts were a major part of my childhood thanks to the fact that both my mother and grandmother were accomplished artists. All of my siblings have great artistic talents as well. My sister is an interior designer and all my brothers had a deep love for photography. I was once told "when God was handing out talents he must have dumped them all on your family." Music, theater, art, photography.... they were all a huge part of my upbringing and helped mold me into the person I am today.

I was bitten by the photography bug in 5th grade when my parents allowed me to start shooting pictures with the family camera. I won a photo contest shortly thereafter and my interest only grew from there. I enjoyed going through roll after roll of film throughout my adolescent years shooting mostly landscapes (I'm a huge sucker for nature). I think my biggest talent has always been finding the beauty in simple things that other people might overlook and capturing raw human emotions.

In 2002 I married my high school sweetheart John. He was in the Navy and I dropped out of college to move across the country to be with him. The first couple years of our marriage were difficult because he was gone most of the time. Even when he was not on deployments he was at work. We learned quickly that every second of time we had together was precious and should not be taken for granted. It was wonderful to discover that we both loved taking photos so much. It gave us the amazing ability to enjoy a hobby together and grow as a couple.

In 2007 John convinced me to take our photography to the next level by starting to shoot portraits. I have to admit I was nervous and skeptical at first, but I warmed up to the idea after a few sessions. When John came to me a year later about doing weddings I had similar feelings of doubt. Of course, after just a couple weddings I was entirely on board.

I love what we do and I feel blessed to have the opportunity to capture such meaningful memories and moments for our clients. I feel even more blessed that I have the ability to take this journey with my husband. Working with him is beyond fun and seeing him shoot is inspiring. It is a dream come true to work with your best friend. His love for photography is contagious and his incredible technical knowledge amazes me. The artistic aspect of photography comes easy to me, but I am by no means tech savvy. John's knowhow and patience were crucial pieces to my development as a photographer.
